First deaf person students of Law In Colombia
On December 7, 2011, we finished the second semester of law at the University “La Gran Colombia”, here, in Bogotá; Maria Cristina Caicedo and Vladimir Claros, deaf persones, are the first deaf in Latin America who have studying law in the University and the next year is your second year.
I had the great privileg of sharing this second semester with Vladimir and Cristina, mi role in the process? I am the interpreter to LSC (Colombian Sign Language), wherever, this is a one big challenge that i had, during the last 15 year, in which i have the oportunity to work as interpreter sign language. Again, I have confirmed, that “preparation” is a esential requirement and crucial for provide a quality job, beside the usual preparacion in each of the topics of subjects, additional time is required to determine, with advance, which are the needs of specific technical vocabulary, equally, the “linguistic planning days” are esencial, but this work is not possible, if we dont have the participation of experts, in this oportunity we had the pleasure to share with Dr. Edwin Rojas.
Search of economics resources for pay the interpreter service, another academics challenges are common in this semester, but my friends Maria Cristina and Vladmir have a good news: The foundation “Fundacion Saldarriaga y Concha” have a support in your asístanse programs. I hope the next year the University can be to support with the payment of service of interpreter. Now, we know in Chile have a similar process with a one deaf person.
